Falls Community Health offers two free fluoride varnish treatments during the school year. We apply the first varnish during Oral Health Screens (scheduled September 18th) and the 2nd varnish in the Spring. Parents/Guardians must fill out and sign the consent form that will be sent home in backpacks and return completed form back to school. This will include both varnish treatments. There is no charge or insurance claim for either fluoride treatment. Students that have returned the form will bring home a note on the day they receive each varnish.

If you have an elementary student, here’s a fun and helpful tidbit of information to keep in mind. It may seem far away right now, but the years go quickly. No matter which grade your student is in today, the journey ahead is full of growth, learning, and memories to be made. Here is a guide to when today’s elementary students will graduate from high school:

🎉 We wrapped up the school year with our End-of-Year Awards Celebration and a heartwarming tradition — our 5th grade students had their final walk through a "Bridge of Arms" formed by our kindergarteners. 💙 Wishing all our Hawthorne families a safe and joyful summer! ☀️🌈

Sioux Falls Neighborhood Soccer: The impact this soccer program is having on our community is truly inspiring! It was powerful to see two former Hawthorne Soccer Stars—now thriving in middle school—come back to volunteer at practice. Just months after benefiting from the program themselves, Nelson and David returned to give back. We’re humbled by their generosity and leadership. Thank you, Nelson and David! ⚽️💪🏾

🚲 Hawthorne Elementary students worked hard this quarter to earn positive behavior tickets—and it paid off in a big way! With the generous donation from Chariots For Children we were able to give away 10 bikes to students as a reward for their efforts and to kick off some summer fun! Great job, Hawthorne students, for showing positive behavior and making your school proud!

🎉💦 SPLASH-TASTIC CELEBRATION! 💦🎉 Our 5th graders had an absolute BLAST earning the chance to throw water balloons at Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Greenfield! 😄 These students worked hard as a grade level to earn points by completing and showing proficiency on the South Dakota Assessment. Their dedication and teamwork paid off in the best (and soggiest) way possible! Way to go, 5th grade – we are so proud of you! 👏👏👏

Perfect for incoming 6th grade families! Beginning Fall 2025, the Community Learning Centers will offer afterschool programs at George McGovern, Ben Reifel, and Whittier Middle Schools, complete with clubs, homework help, snacks, and more! Programs are open to students who attend these schools (or whose home attendance center is one of the three, even if they attend a specialized school). $30/week or FREE for qualifying families FREE at George McGovern thanks to grant funding Learn more or share with someone who might be interested!
